Let's Talk about Skin Care

Wow! It's Saturday!

Let's back up to Thursday because if this blog is nothing else, it's an online diary for me and I want to have my workouts logged. Fo Sho.

Thursday started like any other day.  We worked, walked the girls

then headed to the gym.

Look at us getting into a little healthy routine.

After the hot bowl of eggs on Wednesday, I was NOT revisiting that meal. Instead, we had nice cold bowl of yogurt, granola and fruit! Muuuuch better!

We cleaned up and Justin headed out for a massage and I to a hydra-facial!

Oh man. My face always feels so good after a treatment with my Esti, Lindsay!  I am TERRIBLE about taking care of my skin.  I'm not trying to brag, but when she asked me how everything has been going since she saw me a month ago, I let her know I hadn't washed my face in 4 days.

Soooooo, there's that.

Here's a little history....
In 2018, I decided it was time to be a grown up and start washing my face. Because, folks, things start happening to your skin when you turn 40.  Like, you basically wake up one day and have red, alligator skin.  I've never had skin that needed a lot of anything. I never got into make up, like foundation or concealer because I didn't need it.  Every 5 years or so, I would try it and then lose interest.  My skin was always soft and peachy and I didn't think much about it.

Oh sure, everyone warned and scolded me about washing my face but I was waaaay too busy not thinking about it to think about it.

So, there I was last year, setting an alarm on my phone to remind me to wash my face.  I'll admit. That worked.

Oh! I also got interested in how my skin looked because I started making You Tube videos and needed to wear more makeup and fake eyelashes.  I had no idea where to start!  I'll post about the makeup I'm using in another post.

I stopped using Mary Kay, which I had been using since I was 16 off and on (there's nothing wrong with Mary Kay, I just needed a change).  And started watching the You Tube channel "Hot and Flashy"  That led me to using Cereve and some other products that are not coming to me right now. Obviously, they didn't last.  I'll be honest, I don't have a long attention span for beauty products.  If there are a lot of steps and things have to be done in a certain order and chemistry starts getting involved according to skin depth....I tune out.

THEN in 2019, I started paying attention to brands that test on animals and that brought me to the brand First Aid.  (they do not!) I actually really liked this brand.

It was around this time that I got my first Hydra-Facial and fell in LOVE!  I got on her books and committed for a year of monthly facials.  I started listening to her about what my skin needs and soon after started using PCA products.  Whoa. Big difference!

I also, got botox in May, because my forehead lines were no joke.  Now, I'm not against aging.  I think every stage of life is beautiful.  Seeing lines when I make facial expressions at 43 years old, is fine, but those lines sticking around ALWAYS....I'm not okay.  Not yet.

Those years of smoking cigarettes in my youth and not washing my face are showing.

I AM NOT READY!

Back to Thursday!

After our treatments, Justin and I met up for tacos at our favorite place.

On our way home, a storm starting moving in.

I darkened the contrast a bit so the swirly shape would stand out more in the picture.  In person, it was NEAT!  Looked like an ocean in the sky.

Back at home, I got my big camera batteries charging and started obsessing and worrying about this storm because I was supposed to take pictures for my brother's highschool football players.

I am a NERVOUS NELLY when it comes to driving in inclement weather.  I kept checking the radar, drafted a text to my brother saying I don't think I should come a storm is brewing, deleting that message, checking the radar, asking Justin to look at the radar, SWEATING!  I finally decided it was all staying north of us so off I went to the highschool.  Whew...that was close! (My brother is the head coach at a local highschool.)  It was fun!  I love doing stuff like that.  It didn't even rain.

We finished up our Thursday, with some Big Brother and straight to bed. I was pooped!

Friday, was uneventful!  We were both sore and tired.

Oh! But that storm ended up waiting until the middle of the night to really pick up some power and decided to take ours with it!  I woke up to a eerily quiet and very dark house.

So, we didn't do too much on Friday!  No walk. No workout.  Just a nap.  A good, get in bed, turn the fan on...NAP!

And now it's the weekend! Hooray! Hope you are having a nice little Saturday.

Basically, All Carbs

Yesterday, started with a glorious walk with Sara and Greta.  It was such a pretty day in Kansas City!

Back at home, we got ourselves ready for the gym (if you are keeping track this is THREE days in a row we've gone to the gym, justsayin).

I STRUGGLED yesterday.  I could tell all I had eaten the day before was NACHOS!  I vowed to eat better yesterday...you'll soon see how that went.

We had planned to go straight to the grocery store after the gym but I was so sick, we went straight home.  Those walking lunges zapped all energy.

I immediately fixed some oats and eggs, which went down like a hot bowl of thick sweat!

I ate it but you better believe I picked up some cold food at the grocery store for post workouts when I feel woozy.

After my body got itself together, I packed up three (3) wigs I sold and a dress I sold through Poshmark and off we went to the store.

Back at home, we were both starving again....

Frozen pizza was the obvious answer.

The hardest part of getting back in to the swing of daily workouts, is my body starving for carbs or fat (energy).  Carbs are the easiest and fastest for me to grab but leave me feeling the worst.

Later that evening, we watched Big Brother and I ate these chicken burgers from Costco (I think they are the kale & mozzarella).

This will get better, it's just getting through the gunk of this first week that is the hardest.

Oh, we also ate these...

So, basically. All carbs yesterday and not a veggie in sight!  Well except those flecks of kale in that chicken burger. Counts.

Can we talk about Poshmark?  Who sells through Poshmark?  I have quite a bit of stuff I want to list but it's such a pain in the ass!  What do you guys do? Do you sell your clothes?

I better get going, I have a busy day today! See you tomorrow!

Can You Feel It

Ooooh can you FEEL it?

It's the First Day of School for our area!

While we don't have kids, I love seeing my Facebook fill up with kids sporting their fresh hair cuts, new shoes and back packs.  Off to conquer their new school year with nerves and a little sickness because they are not used to waking up this early yet! (remember that feeling?!)

Yesterday, we got our morning work done and then quickly got ourselves to the gym.

We had to get moving because I had a dentist appointment.

I've been wearing Invisalign for most of my adult life the past couple months. It's Round 2, actually, because I'm not mature enough to handle a retainer.  Adult teeth move FAST. Just FYI.  Should your dog eat your bottom retainer, get that sucker replaced ASAP!

Yesterday, I popped in to get molds made for my NEW retainer.

I hoping this new retainer takes care of those neck folds as well! *fingers crossed*

When I walked in to the dentist, there sat my friend, Wendy (Hi Wendy!). So, I got to catch up with her while she waited on her kids to get their teeth cleaned.

I texted Justin to let him know what was taking me so long.

Always thinking about food, that guy!

After my dentist lobby date with Wendy, I picked Justin up and we had lunch. We were both starving!

Apparently, it was the only meal we ate yesterday! Nice and healthy too.

Not pictured, fried pickles!

I spend the afternoon and evening, working on wig stuff.  I work on the Instagram page and Facebook for my friend LeAnne's wig shop, The Beauty Nook. So, I created three (3) graphics promoting her Friday Night Live wig.  It's fun coming up with new stuff each week!

I also finished editing my wig review, which I posted to my You Tube channel today!

Wigs are so fun!  I love recording these videos but I REALLY like editing them.  I put my headphones on and disappear into the process.  I like the focus it takes to edit.

I've learned a lot about the way I talk in making these videos!  First of all, I have a sing-song way of talking, which is REALLY annoying in a video.  I take long pauses, sometimes in the middle of sentences. And I say "so" and "um" A LOT! I spend the first part of my editing CUTTING all of that out. ha!

Ok! We are off to walk the girls and get to the gym!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!  If your kiddos are starting school, I hope they have a fun first day.  It's basically Fall now.

So, enjoy your Pumpkin Spice latte! (I hear they are coming out even earlier this year)

Who Do We Think We Are

It was so fun waking up this morning, knowing I was going to hop on here and start writing a NEW POST!

It was also fun Sunday when I posted my first post in 4 years and was welcomed back in to your life.  Thank you, friends.

I’m going to slide right back in to my old format of blogging what I did the day before…what I ate. My workouts. The usual.

I started the day with a fresh, hot cup of coffee.

I’m still an early riser. Still enjoy the quiet, darkness of those early hours.

This used to be the time I laced up my running shoes or jumped in the car for a 6am cardio class.  These days, I snuggle on the couch with my coffee to read blogs and watch You Tube videos.

I started drinking exogenous ketones since we last hung out.  They help with a keto diet/lifestyle and while I’m not keto, I’m still drinking these dang ketones BECAUSE they help with my gut issues!  Remember those?  I have issues with yeasty foods and dairy.  I used to take enzymes but found these ketones do the trick. Plus they give me some energy, so I’m still drinking them and eating some carbs.

Once we got everyone up and on their way for the day, we took our two favorite girls for a walk.

Then, I popped a wig on and we headed to the gym!
When I started wearing wigs (a little over a year ago), I didn’t think I would wear one to the gym.  I am just so used to wearing them now that it feels weird NOT to wear one in public.  Plus, I LOVE having a pony tail!

Wig: Enchantress by Mane Attraction in the color Apricot; Headband: Amazon; Tank: Old Navy; Leggings: Athleta; Shoes: Brooks Adreline GTS

It felt so good to get sweaty!

Back at home, I cooked my old favorite…..

I spent the afternoon recording wig reviews.

I recorded two videos and then a new wig arrived, so I popped that on and grabbed some pictures of that one too!  I mean, I might as well get all the use out of this makeup and fake eyelashes.

Wig: Mia by Tress Allure in Mimosa HL

And just like that, it was time for our group home clients to be home and for us to go back to work.

Oh! Right before everyone arrived home, some new furniture got delivered.  When we ordered it, we decided to not pay for the extra delivery service of them putting it where we want and disposing of the packaging.  Our thinking was, it’s good for us to use our muscles and carry our own furniture, blah, blah, blah, BU#$%!T!

Who do we think we are?!

I WISH I would have thought to take pictures or, better yet video, of Justin and I strong-arming the biggest chairs in the world around tight curves and down stairs. Unwrapping, what can only be described as plastic thick enough to withstand being thrown from an airplane!  So. Many. Staples.

Let’s just say. There were two chairs and an armoire and the armoire is still in our entryway.

For dinner, I ate round food.

And it was delicious. I chased that with a gross grape popsicle from Sprouts.  We were pretty proud of ourselves with our purchase of these “healthy” summer treat and they are NOT delicious.

I spend the rest of the evening editing my wig review video.  Still not done.
Okay! I’m off to get my day started!

Holy Cow! Is it you?

You're mind is not playing tricks....

I am actually blogging.

It's been almost four (4) years since my last post!

I miss it.

It's hard to know where to start. How to catch up. Is it even necessary to "catch up" in this time of social media?  Don't we already know everything there is to know about one another?

After my last competition in 2013, I was sick of myself.  I posted SO MUCH on social media that I didn't leave myself much creative juice for my blog.  By the time the dust settled in 2015, I just didn't see how there was room for a blog when everything is all over social media ALL. THE. TIME.  I got a little private too.  I didn't want to post every meal I ate, every time I worked out, every place we visited.  I pulled on the reigns and put the blog in the barn.

I miss it.

Every year, I would renew my domain name and quickly revisit my blog.  Reading back through, reminiscing of the good ol' days of writing lengthy posts with filter-free still shots.

Remember that?  It seems funny now.

And slow.

And boring.

I miss it!

I miss writing in full sentences.

I'm different than I was four (4) years ago. duh.

First of all, I turned 40 during that 4 years!

Here's a quick recap:
When I left you in 2015,
I was still working out pretty regularly and eating like a normal person should (most of the time).  I was feeling pretty good!  I was really in to my planner, stickers and all things colorful!  I've always had hobbies but I really cranked it up in 2015.  Because WORK was STRESSFUL....  Which is another reason I feel like I pulled away from my blog.

The level of stress didn't get much better in 2016.
Owning a group home is hard to explain because I don't want to complain.  I have a job I love. The End.  Except that it's 24 hours, 7 days a week.  We carry the lives of three other people on our shoulders every day.  It gets heavy. There is no option to set it down.  Even when we go on vacation, they are on my mind.  So I bury myself in hobbies, searching for relief.

Except, I can never just have a HOBBY! I have to turn that hobby into some sort of job!  Before I knew it, my planner/sticker hobby turned into me buying a Silhouette machine and heat press and cranking out tshirts!

2017 brought new challenges
with our job along with Piper getting sick following by Brutus and I got myself in deep with making tshirts and started not doing well at ANY of the things!  Especially, managing my stress.

In late 2017, we had to say good bye to Piper.  We had been managing her congestive heart failure for a year and half and her little body finally could not keep up anymore. We were heartbroken.

A month later, January 2018
we rescued Greta from a shelter.  She was 2 1/2 years old and had been a puppy mill mama.  She brought with her trauma, sleep aggression, fear of the outdoors, fear of sunlight, fear of ANY noise (from a toot to an airplane flying overhead).  I had to sleep in our spare bedroom with her for 3 months.

THREE MONTHS, FOLKS!  I could cry thinking about how thick the exhaustion was January through March of 2018.

I won't even dive in to everything I've been through with that girl because most of it is worked out. Time heals, people!  She's so freaking cute and sweet. I could never give up on her.

In April, we had to say goodbye to our fearless leader, Brutus.  It was past time, he had been sick. It was getting to the point where a friend came over and said....you need to make some decisions about Brutus and his quality of life. Ugh. Bah! It's not fair!  Why can't they just all live forever!

Soon after that, we had our kitchen remodeled.  I won't even GET IN TO THAT!

It was right around this time that something else was showing up...or not showing up, actually.

My hair.

I'll go more in to this in another post. Or you can check out my You Tube channel.

Stress sucks.

Like sucks the hair right off my head!

BUT, in my time of panic for hair, I found wigs.

Did some say NEW HOBBY?!  Heeeyyyy-oooo
Once I got used to wigs, I loved them!  I finally had the hair of my dreams! I've never had great hair. Now I can! I can go from short to long and from curly to straight!  I can finally have thick, voluminous hair!

But, like any hobby I start, about 4 months in to wearing wigs, I started a You Tube channel and an Instagram account reviewing wigs!  Now companies and brands send me wigs in exchange for my review!  So basically I have a second full time job. ha!

That brings us to now
and I'm finally feeling like things have calmed down mentally and emotionally.  I worked with my doctor on managing my stress, took some supplements to support my hormones and allow my nervous system to get some relief.  Turns out you can't just push through the stress in your 40's like you did in your 20's! Who knew?!

So now!  I'm ready to get my body back to a healthy place physically.  One thing I know about myself, showing up here, and posting my food and exercise, works for me.

I am such an all or nothing person.  I need to take pictures of my food and write down my workouts and post about it.   It is what it is!

So, that's what I'm going to do!  Along with some wigs, dogs, a husband, work and of course hobbies!

One more thing
Justin and I just celebrated our 21st Wedding Anniversary!

It feels good to be writing again, Friends!  I'm pushing post!
