Winter Wonderland

We woke up to a winter wonderland!

It’s so pretty!

We shoveled the driveway and played with the dogs in the snow. Now we are snuggled in our warm home making some yummy breakfast!

was Saturday.

I made these.

slightly adapted from

And then Justin got stared at while he ate some chicken.

And that was our day!

Ha! But, pretty much.

We had a little ice/snow storm yesterday that kept us home all day.  It really didn’t start until around 4pm, but we are always looking for a reason to have a lazy day! So even the mention of freezing rain and I am not getting out of my jammies.

Beside those muffins, I baked some chicken and brussel sprouts and we stayed inside cozy and warm.

WE WERE SUPPOSED to go to a surprise party for my sister, Vann, and then to Justin’s Dad’s for some Christmas party fun.  By then, the roads were too slick though so we stayed home and wrapped up the day with a glass of wine and watching Saturday Night Live.

It was a good little Saturday.

Weather Update: KC is COLD

It’s almost Christmas!  Bring on the family!  And laughing! And biscuits and gravy!

Yesterday, was COLD!

We got out of the house early and knocked out some Christmas shopping.

Justin had an early workout with Tionna so I headed to the gym at the same time and then we met back up for more shopping.

My workout was stupid.  I just couldn’t get in to it. I felt tired and distracted. So I went home and took a nap.

Justin is one of those people that knows a lot of stuff.  He is always telling me little nuggets of information that have nothing to do with anything but make me go, “huh, I didn’t know that”.  So, I’m going to start sharing them with YOU!

You lucky ducks!

Get it Together

Our house smells like Christmas!

I made these cute little stove-top potpourri kits yesterday morning and put one on the stove for us to enjoy.

The house smelled so good all day!

Anytime someone stops by or we meet a friend for lunch (Hi Kristen!), these make the perfect little gift!

Yesterday started with meeting our friend, Kristen, at the gym.

I rarely get the chance to workout with her as she works during the day.

It was fun to get in the gym together and then the three of us headed to Panera for some lunch.

Greek salad with broccoli cheese soup.

Back at home, I did some Christmas shopping on line and ate waaaaay too much chex mix treats!

I will never make this again because I can not have giant bowls of it around the house. eek.

Once Justin was home from training with Tionna, it was time to get ready for dinner with my sister, Vann, and her husband, Matt, and Gabe.

She turns 30 this weekend!!

We all shared this cookie for dessert and then Justin and I were both awake until 1am!

Now is the time that someone needs to remind me about what I have said about sugar!

I am out of control!

Hey! It’s Friday!

See you tomorrow!

Let the Christmas festivities BEGIN!

We had our first holiday gathering at our house last night with Justin’s sister, Mom and her fiancĂ©.

I made spinach and cheese croissant pinwheels.

Apricot, goat cheese and candy pecans.  We had these one night at Wines by Jennifer and have been waiting for our chance to make them.  They are so oddly good.  A lot of different textures and flavors going on at one time.

Those weird little cracker/bacon treats from Pioneer Woman that cook for 2 hours.

I almost forgot to take a picture again until there were only two left!  This time I made some with parmesan and some with brown sugar.  The parmesan ones are better.

I tried my hand at making roasted candied almonds.  They were ok.  I used coconut sugar instead of regular sugar so that may have made the difference.  They tasted pretty good, but I thought they would be more “candied”.

We also put out the usual crackers and cheese.

Justin’s Mom brought lots of yummy food and chocolate treats and we all stood around talking and eating until I could hardly breath.

Then we did our annual $10 gift exchange.

We play the game where everyone gets a card with a number which decides the order in which the gifts are picked.

When it is your turn, you can either pick a gift from the pile or steal someone else’s gift.

It was fun! And Sarah got stuck with the Star Wars water bottle that we contributed to the exchange.

I didn’t make it to the gym yesterday. Beside getting ready for the family get-together, I had my final voice coaching.  I have learned so much over the past 6 weeks about voice over and am really excited to get my demo made and see what happens!

Everyone left around 10pm and we were all asleep shortly after.

Powdered Sugar

Well, I did it!

I talked about it……

I blogged about it……

I planned for it…..

And I finally did it…….

I made Puppy Chow.

Or Muddy Buddies. Whatever you want to call it.

I didn’t make the gingerbread kind I blogged about yesterday because the store was out of cinnamon chips.  Apparently, everyone read my blog and ran to the store to copy me.

The candy cane kind turned out great though!

The whole process was an ever-lovin’ mess!  Powdered sugar EVERYWHERE!

At the gym

Beside the two things I mentioned above, I did some shopping and some crocheting yesterday.

These suckers are LEAVING the house today!  These are the cookies from the exchange and I keep forgetting to send them to the day hab! Which means I keep eating them.  Get. Out. Of. Mah. House!

Have a great day! See you tomorrow!

Appetizer and Gift Ideas

Yesterday started with LOTS of energy and coffee and oats and eggs.

If you read yesterday’s post, I didn’t have a picture of the cookie exchange.  I do today!

Gosh, I love those girls.  You can read here about our life-long friendship.

After getting through our morning routine, I headed to the gym solo.  Justin has been fighting a cold since last Thursday. Poor guy.  He really wanted to go to the gym yesterday, but I advised against it. Also, he didn’t want to be “that guy”, who is spreading his sickness all over the gym.

Back at home, I ate some chicken and rice casserole.

Then we leashed up the girls and went for a walk around the neighborhood.  It was a beautiful day in Kansas City and it felt great to get some fresh air.

Justin went to see a movie with his sister and Dad and I spent the rest of the day scouring Pinterest for appetizer and little gift ideas.

Here are some of my favorites.

(click on the picture to go to the owner’s site):

Puppy Chow. I have never made this little snack that seems to show up every where I go.  I am the guest that can not keep my hands out of it and before I know it am licking the last of the powdered sugar out of the bottom of the bowl.

Here are the two I have in mind: Cinnamon Gingerbread and candy cane.  Great for having out when guests come over and quick little gifts for the teachers, sitters and neighbors!

Cheese trays.  I think making them into trees is so cute and creative!

Food as food holders! I love the little crab dip filled cucumber cups.  And how neat are those anti-pasta filled salami cups?!

Food on a Stick!

The cheese ball.  Rolling it in parmesan and making a snowman is a bonus in my book!

Black bean fritters!  Well, these just look plain yummy!

Other gift ideas. Stove-top potpourri kits and vanilla-sugar almonds make my list for great little gifts!

What appetizers will be showing up at your holiday party?  Any small gift ideas you can share?
