In other news:

Besides working and going to the gym yesterday…..

I had a hot date!

I forgot to take a picture so here is an oldie from last May.

Kristen got tickets to the premiere of “Lone Survivor” at Screenland Armour.  We met before the movie at Kelso’s and shared a small Hawaiian pizza and a salad.  It was great to catch up with her since the last time I saw her she was on stage for her figure debut!

We had so much to talk about so time flew and before we knew it, we had to head to the theater.  Luckily, it was in walking distance from the restaurant.

The Movie

It was intense.  That is the best way for me to describe.  Kristen had brought some candy in for us to share but I could hardly even eat it because my stomach was in such turmoil almost the whole movie. And you KNOW how upsetting that was to me! I really want to eat all that candy! Every piece of it!

If you like real life, war movies with tons of action and WAR then you will like this movie.  Mark Wahlberg is in it and a couple of other familiar faces.  It was good but it was INTENSE and kind of stressful for me.

I got home around 10pm and it took awhile to settle down.  I was a little nervous I would have dreams about it, but once I fell asleep, I slept like a rock!

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

I just pulled a breakfast casserole out of the oven and I think today will be a great day to cook soup!

Tap, Tap. Is This Thing On?

(Keep reading for what the title is all about!)

I got to thinking this morning….I feel like the perfect time to lift heavy weights for a female is the week before she starts her period.  These are the days when estrogen and progesterone are both at their highest. The past couple of days, I have woke up feeling aggressive, energized, REVVED UP.  And although that sounds like a good thing, those same feelings can take a tail spin right in to irritation and FRUSTRATION fast.

I’ve noticed the past couple of days that I can use that hormonal energy and direct it to my lifting.

If only it could last. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yesterday started with oats and egg whites.

I was on a tight schedule, so gym time came early.

We hit chest and biceps and it felt AMAZING! (see above)  We were both fired up.

After my workout, I hightailed it to my voice coaching lesson.  I am so excited to tell you guys about my new adventure and goals!

I have decided to pursue my dream of….

Voice Over!

It’s kind of one of those “I know a guy, who knows a guy” situations.  Turns out!  I do, in fact, know a guy that does voice over work (David Washington).  So, I contacted him and we had a three hour meeting where he told me everything he knows about the business and then connected me with a guy he knows for even further direction.  I met with that guy (Don Miller) and here we are five weeks in to my six week voice coaching program.

Live your Dreams

I am so excited!

I love going to my lessons. Don Miller is an excellent coach.  The lessons are one on one and I have learned so much in the past five weeks.  He makes me feel comfortable and relaxed and has really helped me come out of my shell and be confident in my work.

I know to go into voice over with the mindset that this is a hobby and I will probably not make any money.  But, you know me well enough by now….

in the back of my mind….

I am telling myself….

In the coming weeks, I plan to build a little recording studio in the back of my closet, record a demo with Don Miller and start working my butt off.

I am not afraid of hard work.  I am willing to put as much effort as I need to in order for this happen.

Keep your ears open!  You might just hear me on TV! Winking smile

After my lessons, Justin, Tionna, and I loaded up and headed back to the gym.

We all worked out and then this happened.

And I don’t even know what is going on here, but is makes me laugh so hard!

Then I thought a most muscle pose was a good idea.  Remind me to never do that again. In fact, remind to quit flexing next to Tionna all together!

At some point during the day, I ate ground beef, rice and stir fry veggies.

It’s almost 4:00pm and I have been working on this post off and on all day!  I better just press publish before it ends up any longer!

Happy Wednesday Friends!

Chocolate PB2

I started yesterday with a plate of yummy…..

I have been mixing up a serving (2 tablespoons) of chocolate PB 2 to eat with my pancakes lately.

I’m sure I’ve posted how I do it, but here’s another look.

  1. Mix one whole egg with three egg whites (I had already made one batch that is why there is oats all over the bowl).
  2. Grind gluten free oats.
  3. Mix the two together and pour onto griddle. Wah-lah, PANCAKES!

After getting everyone up and out of here, I headed to the gym for LEGS!!

Normally, I post a picture of Tionna and I here, but today I thought you would like to see Justin!

Tionna and I train together, but Justin is usually at the gym as well with us. He is just doing his own thing.

I managed to not get anything else done on my to do list.  In fact, sitting here thinking about my day, I’m like, “What DID I do?” ha!

I am helping my dad load pictures of his auction items to so I spent some time doing that.  It’s fun for me and can get frustrating for him so I offered to help.

Besides pancakes, I ate this meal TWICE!  Sorry that I mixed it all up before taking the picture.

It was white rice, ground turkey with taco seasoning, nacho cheese popcorn seasoning, spinach mix, salsa, plain greek yogurt and some jalapeƱos.

It’s Tuesday

And that means voice coaching day!

Oh….I haven’t told you about that yet. Oops. Come back tomorrow and I’ll tell ya all about it! Winking smile

Fist Punch the Air

You know those type of meals where you walk out of the restaurant and want to fist punch the air because you feel so good.

I had that type of breakfast yesterday morning.

Angela and I have known each other for about a year through the KC Divas, but we have never actually hung out one on one and gotten to know each other.

We met at First Watch yesterday morning and did just that over coffee with pumpkin spice creamer and a cinnamon pancake!

I love the pancakes at First Watch because you only get one.  It’s the size of a small platter, but it’s only one so you still feel good about yourself!

She works for Threads for Thoughts.

It was SO interesting to learn about this company.  It is a super small company that makes clothing out of sustainable materials and then a portion of their sales goes toward charities near and dear to them.

I encourage everyone to check them out.  I know I will be!  We all have to buy clothes and Christmas presents and while buying local and from friends is always the best option, buying from a company like this comes in close second. Dontchathink?

Angela is so humble and talked about her role in the company so nonchalantly.  I was like if I worked for that company, I would be blowin’ up everybody’s shit, bragging about how I work at a better place than you! Winking smile

Angela is so easy to talk to, we were there for two hours!  I left that breakfast so full of energy and wanting to get stuff done and make a difference.  Love when just being around another person can do that to me.

I hope everyone has a chance to get to know someone new or maybe they have been a friend of a friend in your life.  Reach out.  You may be missing out on a really great person!

After breakfast

I went out to my Dad’s house and spent the afternoon chatting with him and my stepmom, as it was his birthday.  I learned all about his new adventure into buying and selling stuff from auctions.  It’s fun to see someone get so excited about a hobby!

I finished the day crocheting and watching the Chiefs.  I fell asleep before it was over. Never fear, I only had to look at Facebook for 5 seconds this morning to know how it ended.

Happy Monday Friends!

Also, whoever makes this crap up, I like you.

Happy Sunday! It’s my Dad’s birthday!

2011May 016

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Last Wednesday

Justin got his wisdom teeth out!

And on Thursday, we were shopping and he was eating pizza.

And Friday, we went out Wines by Jennifer for a wine tasting and the Rusty Horse for dinner.

I can’t believe how well it went for him and how fast he bounced back!

Girls on the Run

Also on Friday, I volunteered at packet pick up for Girls on the Run.

I’m excited about being a part of this wonderfully, inspiring organization.  I REALLY want to be coach! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Saturday morning

I volunteered at the season ending 5k.  I was there bright and early to start setting up.  I jumped right in and started cutting bagels for the hospitality area.  Once the runners finished they were treated to bananas, oranges, Luna bars and bagels from Panera along with chocolate milk.

Before the race started, they had all kinds of fun things set up for the girls.  This was a dance area and hoola hoop contest.  There was also a hair station and arts and crafts area.

My job official job was to help out at the finish line.  So, after cutting all the bagels with the help of three other girls, I hopped over to the finish line.  We had to unwrap all the medals for the finishers, unwrap the water bottle packages and set up the buckets that would hold the time chips.

It was fun and a lot of WORK!  I believe I was told there were 2,500-3,000 runners.  I was clipping off the time chips and handing out water as people finished.

I was so pooped by the time I got home, I slept on and off the rest of the day!

Check this out!

When we were in Vegas in August, we went in to the Sugar Factory store and I bought these temporary lip tattoos.  I thought the Girls on the Run race would be the perfect place to wear them.  I don’t have a lot of patience with applying things like this though.  So, after taking this picture, as soon as I separated my lips, the sticker on the bottom lip was all jacked up.  I should have let them dry a little more before touching my lips together. So, I ended up scrubbing them off before leaving for the race.

Food and Exercise

I got in a shoulders and triceps workout on Thursday with Tionna.

Obviously, I was feeling myself and needed to stop and take some pictures while Tionna continued to stretch. ha!

Friday, I did legs again.

I took yesterday off and plan on taking today off as well.

My meals have been whatever the hell I feel like eating.  Soooo, not a lot of pictures.  I only took pictures of the healthy meals! ha!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!  I’m off to have breakfast with a girlfriend!

A Turn in a Different Direction

Favorite yoga moment.

When we are all laying in savasana at the beginning of class and Marti, our yoga teacher, is walking around talking to us about letting go of all your roles. IMG_6401

“Letting go” of the roles WE place on ourselves.

So it makes me think of my roles.

Wife          Caregiver               Nurse          business owner           friend          daughter           competitor          weight-lifter         yogi          pet mommy

It is actually a relieving feeling when she says those words.

Let go of your roles.

For just one hour.

When I place a title on myself, expectations automatically enter my mind. A set of rules start building.

Labeling ourselves or giving ourselves titles is comforting.  It’s like a filing system.  We have labels we give ourselves and we have labels we give others.  It lets us know where to put people in our lives.

It’s also judgment.

I like to think that I don’t judge people, but I do.  As I sit here really thinking about this, I judge people more than I realize.

When I hear that someone practices yoga, is a nurse, or lets their dogs sleep in their beds.  I automatically place them in a “good person” category.  I then create feelings about that person based solely on that. Geesh.

When I hear that someone abused an animal, or hurt another human, or cheated on their partner.  They go into the “bad person” category and feelings are created based on those facts only.

So basically, anyone that does anything like ME or that I also find enjoyable, then I categorize that person as “good” and anyone that does anything that creates a bad feeling in ME, leads me to categorize them as “bad”.

Several years ago, when I was venting about how someone else was living their life, my Grandma Palmer told me that sometimes “You just have to live along side people.”

You just have to live along side people.

She is the smartest woman I know.

I don’t have to agree with everyone but I also don’t have to form an opinion about them.  I don’t have to THINK another second about them at all!

It really is none of my business how anyone else lives their life.

Imagine that.  If we all minded our own business and just practiced kindness toward others.

I want to work harder on that.  I don’t want to build negative feelings about people.  That doesn’t do anything good for anyone.  It only puts out more negative energy.

Like Ellen says at the end of her show, “Be kind to one another”. That’s all we can do.  Create happiness in our own lives and share that with others and don’t pay attention to the rest.

Well, this post really took a turn in a different direction.  I started with my favorite yoga moment and slid right into judging people!

Welcome to my brain, Good Night!
