It’s Called Winter

Yesterday started off with me doing a fat burner program on the elliptical.  Typically, I don’t see my elliptical as intense cardio, but with the incline up and the resistance at 15, my heart was pumping and the sweat was moving!

In case you don’t live in the Midwest, it is FRIGID right now.

Everyone is complaining…it’s too cloudy…it’s too cold…I get shocked every time I touch anything….waaaaah.

I’m not saying I never complain about anything, because the fact that it gets dark at 5:30pm is not my favorite part of winter, but complaining about the cold when there are plenty of places to live with year round warmth seems silly.

It’s called Winter, people. We get it every year.

These are the same people that are begging for summer and will promptly complain about the heat when it arrives.

Back to me.

I’m cold.

Oh, wait, I’m still trying to tell you about yesterday.

I was cold yesterday too.

But, not while I worked out with Tionna!  We did back and core and posing!  I am loving that she incorporates posing into every workout.  She gives me so much to think about and really keeps me engaged and how each exercise will change my body.

Meal #1:  Protein pancake, egg whites, grapefruit

Meal #2: Chicken breast, quinoa, green beans, mustard

Meal #3: Shrimp (seasoned with Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime), kale

Meal #4:  Chicken breast, shredded brussel sprouts with turkey bacon

Everyone had the day off around here yesterday so it feels good to be back to our routine this morning.

Hope everyone is getting after it this week and making every day count!

Cook and Rest

Yesterday was food prep day.  I felt like I cooked and cleaned ALL. DAY. LONG.

So worth it.

It feels good to have some of the meals done for the week. I don’t have every meal covered, but the Noon and 3pm meals are done and those are the hardest time of day for me.

Other than cooking food, I read a lot and soaked in a hot tub with jets.  Between the leg workout on Friday, (by the way, did I tell you I did a total of 120 lunges holding a 30lb dumb bell in each hand) and the trail/hill run on Saturday my glutes were screaming!

Love that feeling.

Meal #1: Protein pancake, egg whites, grapefruit

Meal #2: Chicken breast, quinoa, shredded brussel sprouts with turkey bacon

Meal #3: Chicken breast with regular mustard, kale chips

Meal #4: Salmon with spinach and iceberg lettuce and Newman’s Own Oil & Vinegar dressing.

Have a great start to your week!  See you tomorrow!

Snuggled In

I have always liked routines, but you already know that about me.

I am an “all or nothing” type person, but you already know that as well.

I get into phases with food.  I can be very happy eating the same thing day after day.  Up until I met Justin, if I went to a restaurant I ordered a taco salad, if that was not an option then chicken fingers.

That is why comp prep feels so good.

I get myself into a comfy little routine and I hunker down, snuggle in and stay there until May.

I am snuggled in.

KC Divas

The Northland group got together and ran a couple of trails and a BIG hill yesterday morning.

I pretty much ate the same five meals in the past several days.

Meal #1: Pancakes (oats and egg whites)

Meal #2: Egg, egg whites, grapefruit

Meal #3: Ground turkey, quinoa, stir fry veggies

Meal #4 & #5: Ground turkey and brussel sprouts with turkey bacon

I am switching it up this week and cooked up some chicken, brussel sprouts and green beans.  I am also prepping some shrimp and salmon.  It’s going to be a good week!

The two top dishes with no veggies are going to be eaten with kale chips.  Those are ONLY good fresh out of the oven, though!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Getting Myself Together

Hello middle of the week!

I spent Monday and Tuesday eating saltine crackers and Ibuprofen. Sad smile

By Wednesday, I had crawled out of the Cramp Cave and started my day on the treadmill for a 3 mile run.

Later in the morning, I met up with Tionna for a chest workout.  That girl had me picking up some heavy weight.  I definitely have some mental blocks when it comes to dumb bells and I don’t go past a certain weight.  She made me go past it.

After my workout it was time for a massage!  Oh man, I needed it.  I could have cried it felt so good.

Meal #1: Oats with protein powder

Meal #2: Rice cake with peanut butter, 1/2 a grapefruit

Meal #3: 1/2 a grapefruit, two whole eggs

Meal #4: Ground turkey with stir fry veggies

Meal #5: Ground turkey and shredded brussel sprouts with crispy turkey bacon

Playing catch up.

Now it’s time to get myself and my house together.  With Justin and I taking turns being sick, we are behind on EVERYTHING.

Time to buckle down and get things back in order around here!

If you are in prep, how’s it going?

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  We did!

It was cccccooold in Kansas City, which just makes for a good reason to get all bundled up in the fun scarves and hat I make and wear boots.

We took family pictures with my Mom and Stepdad’s side Saturday afternoon at Portrait Innovations.

Then we met up with some friends and ate dinner at Garozzo’s.  I forgot my phone at home, so didn’t take one picture at dinner! #bloggeroftheyear

I ordered the most healthy thing I could find, it was an Italian restaurant after all, and it was called “Mike’s Diet Chicken”.  How creative.  It was good though.  It was chicken breast and shrimp covered in tomatoes and basil.

Some of the KC Divas did a Bikram class.

Holy Smokes!  I have NEVER sweat so much in my life.  It is just as mental as it is physical.  The only goal for your first class is: STAY IN THE ROOM.  It is heated to 105 degrees.  I kept having to tell my self to “just breath”, “you are not going to die”, “keep breathing”. It’s an intense class.

You go through breathing exercises and then 26 poses which are done twice.  I managed to stay in the room but there was one whole set of poses where I just sat on my heels and then the next set I had to lay down. I was feeling the heat!

It was an amazing experience and I definitely want to do it again.

Back at home

Justin was cooking Chili when I walked in the door as we were having family dinner with my Dad and Stepmom’s side.

Everyone brought stuff and we had three different types of chili, all the toppings, cornbread, and desserts. (I steered clear of the dessert, but they looked yummy!)

It was a busy and fun weekend!

Friday Love

Yesterday started with 30 minutes on the old treadmill.

Then it was time for some egg whites, one whole egg and some super juicy grapefruit.

I had eaten most of the grapefruit before it made it to the plate.

Did you know

that grapefruit is a lower glycemic fruit?  That makes is perfect for this sugar addict.

Fruit is definitely a trigger that will get my sugar lovin’ brain obsessing about the sweet stuff, but it’s also packed with vitamins, antioxidants and fiber.  Last time I was at the doctor, she asked me if I am eating fruit and I told her no because it kicks my sugar cravings into high gear so she told me to stick to grapefruit, pears and apples.  They are all lower glycemic fruits.

Later in the morning

I headed down to workout with Tionna and can barely move this morning because of it!

Love that feeing!

She is AMAZING!  I can not tell you how excited and pumped I am for this prep!

Meal #2: Left over ribs and sweet potato waffle fries

Meal #3: Turkey meatballs and brussel sprouts

Meal #4: Seasons 52: Organic Salmon, asparagus, carrots, potatoes

Girls Night Out

The KC Divas met down at Seasons 52.

It was such a fun night!

It was fun to get all dressed up and hang out with the girls and even meet some that I only know through Facebook.

Being a part of this group, is turning out to be one of the best experiences of my life.

I am surrounded by women who feel the same way I do about fitness and nutrition.

We can talk openly and without judgment about our struggles and brag on each other, or ourselves, about our triumphs.

I feel so lucky to be a part of this group of motivated, strong minded women.

I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for all of us as we grow and bond of stronger!

Holy sore muscles.

Yesterday started with

a 30 minute jog on the treadmill. My legs were feeling Wednesday’s workout with Tionna so instead of going to Title Boxing and pounding on them some more, I stretched them out on the treadmill. It felt good and got the sweat moving!

Meal #1 was oats with protein.

And then I forgot to take another picture of my food the rest of the day.

Grapefruit are in season and I can’t get enough. They are so delicious!

Meal #2: Egg whites plus one whole egg, grapefruit

Meal #3: Turkey meatballs, roasted green beans, sweet potato waffle fries

Meal #4: Turkey meatballs, roasted green beans

Meal #5: Ribs (that Justin baked in the oven! Yum!), roasted green beans

Brussel Sprouts

If you have been following me for a while, you know I LOVE brussel sprouts.  The other night, when I was at the Vision Board party, one of the girls whipped out a container of food that included shredded brussel sprouts (Hi Heather!).

I could not quit thinking about them.

Why have I never made them?

That ends now (well, actually it ended last week)!

I took a bag of frozen brussel sprouts, fed them to my food processor with the shredding attachment on…….

and WA-LA!

Then I sautéed them in a little olive oil and salt.

Here they are after I divided them into my containers.

So easy and so good.

Still trying to get over this cold.  Now it’s in that phase where it’s just hanging on to be a jerk.  I mostly feel fine but I still can’t breath 100%.

These hats, I made, make me feel better.

Hey Jack, IT’S FRIDAY!  (Please tell me you watch Duck Dynasty)
