Favorite Kind of Day

It’s Monday!

It’s Day 2 of me and my heating pad but I’m not going to let that get me down.  It’s going to be near 70 degrees today in Kansas City and I’m going to enjoy!

2012January 001

Yesterday was pretty boring.  Which means it was a wonderful lazy Sunday!  The sun was shining, our girl came that cleans our house and I never got out of my pajamas!

Better Late than Never

Oops! I almost forgot to post today.

It’s a heating pad kind of day.

Funny Apology Ecard: Sorry I used my brief gas cramps as a way to relate to your period.

Yesterday was pretty uneventful too.  I am not complaining.

I did eat, though!

Finally, a Workout!

Yesterday started with a workout!

Whew! I can finally type those words!

The day started at 4:45am when I woke to see that Justin was awake and informed me that he had been awake all night. Darn.

Justin used to get insomnia quite often and has never been a good sleeper.  But, an all-nighter hasn’t happened in a long time.  I hate that for him since I am a great sleeper.  I can pretty much go to sleep on demand.

He got up with me and even drank some coffee, but by 7am, he was starting to feel tired and was going down fast.  He helped me get everything ready so my morning with our clients would be a breeze and then headed to bed.

I had planned to meet a friend at Title Boxing but didn’t get there in time so I met her at the gym instead.  I brought my Gym Boss and we did our own interval workout in the open gym.  We also grabbed some 15lb dumb bells and a stability ball. It was so fun and I am so sore this morning!

I set my timer so we would work for 45 seconds and rest for 10 seconds.  We kept that up for probably 20 minutes or so and then just started doing reps.  I was dying and quickly realized I wasn’t completely over my cold!

Here are the exercises we did (not sure if I can remember everything!) in no particular order:

  • jumping jacks
  • jogging
  • walking lunges
  • high skips
  • side shuffle
  • chest press on stability ball
  • concentration curls
  • french press
  • burpees
  • modified burpee  with dumb bells (plank, push-up, one arm row, dead lift, hammer curl, overhead press, tricep extension)
  • squat with side leg raise
  • wall taps
  • pushup to side plank
  • Romanian dead lifts
  • squat jumps
  • sprints
  • bent over rows

I think that’s it.  We repeated the exercises we did with weights.

Meal #1: Oats with protein powder and banana

2012January 003

Meal #2: Egg white and veggie scramble with gluten free toast

2012January 005

Meal #3: Chipotle burrito bowl (brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, chicken, tomatillo green chile salsa and fresh tomato salsa, lettuce)

2012January 009

Meal #4: Snack of pretzels and a Cutie

Meal #5: Salad with pork tenderloin

2012January 011

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

“Forks over Knives”

I had hoped this post would start out with, “Yesterday started with the following workout”, but a workout didn’t end up happening.

2012January 006

I ended up messing around on the computer until it was time to awaken our household.  Then I got wrapped up in getting our laundry done until it was time to get my haircut.  Which was the most exciting thing I did all day.  It felt good to get out of my nightgown and get cleaned up to go out in the world.

While getting my haircut, my hairstylist told me about the movie “Forks over Knives”.  She hasn’t actually seen it yet, but after her story, I really want to either grab the book or watch the movie.

FOKDVDandBook2 210x300 Forks Over Knives DVD and Companion Book Continue to Top Retail Charts

Here is a summary of what Gretchen told me:

She knows this lady, that has a son, who at one point needed a heart transplant.  Son got the heart transplant and they warned that people who get transplants are at high risk for getting cancer.  Son gets cancer.  His doctor’s advise that due to the new transplant and medications he is on, there is not a lot they can do for treatment.  No one thinks he has long to live.  The lady and her husband take a leave of absence at work. It’s a very sad time. They all think this is the end.  Son watches movie, expresses to Mom that he would like to try this diet, Mom says sure, I’ll do it with you.  Six months go by, son is still alive, there are no more traces of cancer.  The End.

Like I said, I have not read the book or watched the movie.  I also have no proof that whatever this diet is cured this young man’s cancer.  I am just relaying the story.

I will be purchasing the book or movie today, possibly both.  I love stuff like this.  I love hearing about how food cures our bodies.  I think it is all so interesting and fascinating.

With that being said here is what I put in my body yesterday!

Meal #1: Chobani Strawberry Yogurt, Udi’s gluten free granola, banana

2012January 002

Meal #2: Baked potato and chili from Wendy’s

2012January 010

2012January 016

Meal #4: Salad - baby romaine, green leaf lettuce, broccoli, red onion, cucumber, tomato, green and black olives, canadian bacon, Newman’s Own Olive Oil and Vinegar

2012January 019

I am meeting a friend at Title Boxing this morning, so a workout is definitely in my future!

Happy Friday!

Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about finishing that “Blog Game” from yesterday, I just didn’t feel like dealing with it this morning!

Blog Game

I am feeling sooo much better this morning!

2012January 017

I am pretty excited about getting a workout in, eating some good food and a new Blogger find (hopefully it hasn’t been this way for months and I am just now noticing!)!

Since I started my blog the one thing I was never happy with was my inability to respond directly to comments.  Which has resulted in me just not commenting at all most of the time.

I was always jealous of people who added that feature and even tried to add it a couple of times to my own blog with no success.

I was elated this morning when I read a comment and noticed two little words right below the comment….”reply” and “delete”…GASP!

What’s this?

Could it be?

You better believe, if you leave a comment from now on, you are going to get a response!

2012January 009

So, in said comment, that I joyfully responded to, I got tagged in a little blog game!   This couldn’t have come at a better time because, besides how many times I blew my nose yesterday, I don’t have much to talk about this morning!

Carli Alice, over at Grandma’s Guide to Life, tagged me, so here I go:

The rules:

  1. You must post the rules.
  2. Post 12 fun facts about yourself in the blog post.
  3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create 12 new questions for the people you tagged.
  4. Tag 12 people and link them on your post.
  5. Let them know you've tagged them.

12 Fun Facts About Myself:

  1. I ate toast with peanut butter, honey and bananas for the first time in my life this month.
  2. I love my animals (duh), but not necessarily your animals (I don’t want to pet sit), but I want YOU to love MY animals.
  3. I haven’t woken up to an alarm since last March.  It feels good.
  4. I don’t know how I drank coffee before we owned a Keurig.
  5. I am addicted to Facebook, Blogs and Pinterest.  I check them obsessively.
  6. I need to carry a lint roller in my purse.
  7. I need to take a shower. (This comment will embarrass Justin.)  Anytime I mention to someone that I haven’t showered or I need to shower, Justin later says….don’t tell people that…no one wants to hear that you haven’t taken a shower….it’s embarrassing.
  8. I don’t wear a bra more than I wear a bra (this will also embarrass Justin). Sometimes when we are leaving the house, I’ll say, Can you tell I’m not wearing a bra?  He’ll say, No, but you really should wear a bra when we leave the house.  This cracks me up!
  9. I need to not where my nightgown, with fleece pants under it, all day, again, like I have all week.
  10. I have never had a dog that sheds and it over takes me on some days.  Hair is EVERYWHERE!
  11. I am trying to decide between an iPhone or a Droid Razr. (Opinions welcome!)
  12. The worst part about having a dog that sheds is seeing someone walk out of my house with their backside covered in dog hair!

Carli Alice’s Questions:

Disclaimer: My answers aren’t that great and I blame that on my lingering head cold.

1. What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail?  Compete in back to back competitions, become a fitness model, play the lottery, have kids.

2. Is money really the answer? Absolutely not.

3. What was your first care?  I’m thinking this should say “scare”, maybe.  I can’t think of anything right now.

4. Who is your favorite cartoon character? Don’t have one.

5. If your life was a book, what would it be called?  Sorry, can’t think of a good name right now (see above disclaimer)

6. What is the most times you have watched a movie?  Oh, I have no idea how many times I have watched Grease, but I’m sure it’s in the thousands!

7. What was your childhood nickname? Stace or Staush

8. What is the one thing you can not live without?  I am pretty confident I could live without any thing I currently own, but I prefer to not leave the house without my cellphone.

9. Would you rather be thin or rich? Neither, I want to be healthy and am happy having enough to live comfortably.  I think people that try to be thin or rich will never be satisfied.

10. How many songs have you heard with your name in it? One? I think?  The Ting Tings song, ‘What’s My Name’ (not even sure that is the name of the song and I’m too lazy to Google it right now)

11. What was your most memorable childhood birthday gift? Oh, I have received so many great gifts in my life….I wish I didn’t have a head cold and I could remember one!

12. What excites you about 2012?  Not being sick after this cold is over!

Sorry, this is getting out so late, I started working on this post at 5:30am!

Oh my goodness, I just realized, I am supposed to tag 12 other people and come up with 12 new questions!

I don’t have time to do that right now, so I guess this post is to be continued…………………………...

For Pete’s Sake

What day is it?

When I left you on Monday I was talking about starting to not feel good on Sunday.  To bring you up to date:

I ran a fever for two days….

hardly got any sleep because my sinuses were either burning on fire or felt like they were holding a brick…

have gone through about 5 rolls of toilet paper (from blowing my nose)…..

and, if I listed my meals for the past two days, cough drops would be listed as a meal.

Funny Get Well Ecard: Sorry you're one of those people who seems to get sick all the time.

What really stinks is that Justin got it as well!

In the almost nine years we have been doing this business, both of us have NEVER been sick at the same time.  Let me just say, it has been a tough couple of days.

But!  We are both feeling better today.  Now it just feels like I have a cold, which is annoying, but bearable!

My Mom called last night and told me to look on my front porch….she had left us chicken and dumplings along with a get well soon card!

2012January 002

I asked her if she was out there too and she said…No way! She didn’t want to get sick!

I couldn’t believe that someone came all the way to our front door and neither one of our dogs barked!

2012January 001

I am so thankful for that soup!  I have wanted soup so bad but was too sick to even think about making it!  It doesn’t matter how old you get, there is something so soothing and comforting about home made soup from Mom!

I ate chicken and dumplings for breakfast this morning.

Before I leave you for the day, I have just one question….Apple iPhone 4S (3G) or Droid Razr (4G)?

Weekend Stuff

I’m sorry I left you hanging yesterday with no post.  I started not feeling good again!?  What is happening?!

Saturday started with some oats with protein powder and then some cardio at the gym.  I did 30 minutes on the AMT with the resistance set to 20 and then 30 minutes of incline walking/jogging on the treadmill.

2012January 016

2012January 009

Meal #2: Egg white and veggie scramble

2012January 021

We did a wine tasting at Wines by Jennifer before meeting Justin’s step brother, Aaron, and his girlfriend Patty for dinner.

2012January 003

2012January 005

Entrée at dinner was pepper crusted beef medallions with mashed potatoes and veggies.

2012January 012

Sunday was pretty uneventful because it’s when I started NOT FEELING GOOD AGAIN!  This time it’s all in my sinuses and draining.  I think it’s this crazy weather we are having (or because I was in that doctor’s office on Friday…or that I went to the gym Saturday morning…germs are EVERYWHERE!)   I don’t usually have allergies but I think the fluctuation in pressure is affecting me.  We had thunderstorms last night.  Weird.

Breakfast yesterday morning was egg whites with Canadian bacon, gluten free toast and a Cutie.

2012January 013

Then I made this strawberry pecan bread.  The only change I made to it was using Chobani’s Vanilla Greek Yogurt instead of the sour cream.  Oh and I also added a handful of white chocolate chips.

2012January 003

Hope you had a great weekend!

I am going to go take all my vitamins, drink water and wash my hands every 5 seconds today.  Have a great Monday!

Pork Fried Rice

Yesterday started off with a doctor’s appointment for one of our clients, which of course, lasted half of the day.  I don’t understand making an appointment for 10am and then not getting in until 11:30am.  Luckily, I know the drill by now, so I called and asked how far she was running behind.  They start booking appointments at 9am and ours was for 10:15am.  When I called at 10am, the receptionist let me know that the doctor had just arrived!  Which meant she was already an hour behind!

I am so glad I called!  We arrived late so I called in to the office and the receptionist said they still weren’t ready, so I entertained our client in the comfort of our car instead of a waiting room full of people, where behavior issues are sure to arise.  That’s why I keep using that doctor.  I hate the wait, but I love that they “get” us.  I told the receptionist that I was outside, so she came out and got us when it was our turn.

Meal #1: Toast with protein powder (mixed to peanut butter consistency), honey, banana with a side of clementines

2012January 020

Meal #2: Pork tenderloin with Gates BBQ sauce, Salad

2012January 007

2012January 006

Meal #3: Gluten free cereal with dark chocolate almond milk and a couple of Fiber One bars throughout the afternoon.

2012January 010

Meal #4: Homemade pork fried rice

2012January 014

That pork fried rice was soooo good!

Here’s how we did it:

Pork Fried Rice

  • Cook brown rice per directions on box in the microwave.  Let it sit out to cool.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of butter to a super hot wok and scramble eggs right in the wok. Remove eggs.
  • Add a little oil to the pan (we used Safflower because that’s what we had that could take that kind of heat).
  • Add onions and meat to the pan.  Our meat was already cooked since we were using left over pork tenderloin, so we only had to cook long  enough to take the rawness out of the onion.  We wanted our onions to still have a little crunch to them, so we only cooked them for 2 or 3 minutes probably.
  • Add in some frozen peas and carrots.
  • Add some soy sauce.
  • Add rice to the wok.
  • Add a little more oil to coat the rice if it starts looking a little dry at this point.
  • Add the eggs back in.
  • Keep everything moving and mixing together.
  • Give it a taste and you’re done!

2012January 015

It came together super fast and was really tasty.  We thought it needed more meat, so Justin threw some more pork slices into the wok after we served up our rice and heated them up. That’s why there are additional pieces of pork in the bowl.  It was the first time we had made fried rice so we weren’t really sure of how much to use of all the ingredients.

I am determined to get a workout in this morning…so off I go!  Have a great Saturday!

Laundry Room = Complete!

We finally did it!

We got the laundry room done!

Remember my project I started before we left for New Orleans?  It was a three-part organizational project:

Part 1: Organize yarn – DONE! (clearly the most important!)

Part 2: Organize laundry room – DONE!

Part 3: Organize spare bedroom – stay tuned!

In case you are just joining us, here is a recap:

I wish I would have taken a true “before” picture.  The shelf to Justin’s left in the below picture was the ONLY hanging shelf in the room!

2012January 007

We had black wire cubes on the wall that shares the door (floor to ceiling), but I had taken those out and put them in the spare bedroom closet to store my yarn.  That’s what started this whole organizational mess!

2011December 003

Then I moved the shelves from the spare bedroom closet to the laundry room, which didn’t workout as planned and left us with this:

2011December 007

So all our “stuff” was taking up floor space.  My goal was to get everything off the floor and open that room up.

We decided that the track/shelf system would work best for our laundry room.  Cabinets would make the room look even smaller and other shelving systems were too permanent.

2012January 010

By using the tracks, I can configure the shelves any way I want.  I don’t feel locked in to this layout should I change my mind once I start using it (plus it was super easy for Justin to install).

2012January 014

I had most of the tubs and bins, but I needed several more, so I ran up to Target and grabbed the teal and teal with zig zag tubs.  The blue bucket in the corner bugs me a little but I am not going to replace a perfectly good bucket because it doesn’t match my color theme…..yet.

2012January 023

We love it.  It works perfect for us and we accomplished my goal of getting everything off the floor!  Now I just need to label the tubs and I am DONE!

What I’m trying to tell you is…….I didn’t workout yesterday.

Meal #1: Gluten free toast with peanut butter, honey and banana and a side of clementines (Cuties)

2012January 002

Meal #2: Egg whites, onion, red bell pepper, broccoli, mushrooms, black olives

2012January 004

Meal #3:  Left over noodles from Noodle & Co., salad

2012January 008

Meal #4:

Justin made a yummy pork tenderloin that I snacked on throughout the afternoon which left me not very hungry for a meal, so I ate ice cream…..from Sonic.
