Gym Etiquette

Yay for Saturdays!  The day to sleep late! Except for me, who still woke up at 4:30am.  After letting the dogs out to do their thing, I made myself go back to bed for just a little longer. That time of the morning is not acceptable for a Saturday, and I was still feeling tired.  I fell back to sleep watching an infomercial about Tracy Anderson’s workout program.  It’s looks pretty great actually, but I can think of better ways to spend $120 right now.

I woke back up at 6am with Katy staring at me.  She’s used to her 5am breakfast and was wondering how I can sleep while she starves.

So that’s where I’m at so far this morning. Hope you guys are having a fabulous start to your weekend.  We are going to have gorgeous weather once again in KC.  Now that we have had a freeze and the allergens that plague one of our residents are dead, we can have doors and windows open! *high five*

Yesterday, was my once a month date with my heating pad and a bag of skittles.  That’s all you want to know about Friday.  Sara was so bored, she decided to drag every plastic dog bowl we have out into the yard and destroyed one of them.

But, Thursday, was a much better day!  I actually woke up not feeling my best, but the day turned around.  I drank coffee and farted around on the computer telling myself it was okay to not workout.  It was that time of the month, yada yada yada.

After reading several of YOUR blogs, I was pumped to get to the gym.  I needed that workout. I knew I would feel better if I got there and got moving.

I had already missed Title Boxing and any of the early morning group classes at the Y, so I decided to lift some weights.

Here’s a fun fact: I have never lifted weights at the Y. In fact, the only time I have ever lifted weights publicly was in Indiana when I went to the gym with our friend.  I have always lifted weights at home or at Hitch Fit with Diana. So, I was a little intimidated and nervous.  I don’t know proper gym etiquette and I certainly have never used most of the machines in there.

Lucky for me, it wasn’t too crowded so I walked around the whole area first and checked everything out.  They had a large area of free weights but I really wanted to try the machines.  I enjoyed using the machines at the gym in Indiana, mainly because it was something different.

First, I hopped on an elliptical for 5 minutes to warm up then I did three sets of the following:

I stepped away mid blog to grab the sheets off our bed to wash (I know, a little ADD?) and when I popped the mattress pad off one of the corners something dropped onto my foot and it was:

MY WEDDING RING!!!!  I am so freaking excited!  I raced out of the bedroom to tell Justin, there was a kiss, some high kicks, fist pumps!  I can’t believe it!  YAAAAAAY!


Okay, back to the workout, so a 5 minute warm up and then I did kind of a weird workout.  Basically, I just went to whatever machine was open. I didn’t really have a plan.

  • Leg press: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Tricep Extentions: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Bicep curls: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Seated leg curls: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Leg extensions: 3 sets of 12 reps

I hopped back on the elliptical for 10 minutes for a cool down and then went home.

The machines were a fun change, but there was no one by the free weights, so I may just stick to that area next time. Or I may just lift weights at home. I don’t know. We have everything they have and I don’t have to worry about germs (I scrubbed my hands in the bathroom before leaving for a solid minute after touching all those machines) and I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.

For example, how do you guys do supersets in the gym?  It seemed like as soon as I got up from a machine someone else sat down. What if I wanted to do a set of something else and then come back to that machine?  I have to wait until they are done? And do I wipe it down with cleaner each time?  Which, by the way, I didn’t see ANYONE else wiping down machines!  I don’t know if I want to go through all that.

I mainly got the membership at the gym to take advantage of all the group classes.  So, I may just stick to that and lift weights at home. We’ll see.

Katy Update

I took Katy to get her blood glucose checked yesterday and it is STILL over 500!  So, her insulin got bumped up once again.  I am so surprised she is still so high.  She is acting so much better.  I don’t think we realized how bad she has been feeling.

    I'm sorry Katy's blood sugars are still not coming down. Hopefully all that will be figured out very, very soon!

  2. Oh my gosh, how exciting that you found your ring. PHEW! So sad about Katy. I hope they get that under control soon, is it a weekly check on her dosage? So sad. I haven't wanted to go to the gym the last couple of days. My kids have been out of school... which throws my routine out the window and then my mood changes. Ugh. Can't wait for Monday. I need my routine back! Have a great day lady!

  4. So glad you found the ring! Yay for you! ANd the superset thing - LOL . My gym has sweat towels so if I'm doing a superset I put my towel on the machine / area that I am using. Most people at the gym do this and most people are respectful and will allow you to work in with them. I also go there at 4-430am so there are not a lot of people there. If i go later in the day it does get challenging because there are more people but most people are nice. Now what gets on my nerves is the guy that leave 6 - 45lb plates on the leg press when he's done. TAKE THE WEIGHTS OFF. LOL. Okay I'm done ranting. Have a good weekend :)

  5. I have the kind of schedule where I can use the gym at off peak hours. That's what I recommend. Then you can do almost anything you want.

    You should try that if you can.

    and yeah agree with cheryl-use gym at off peak hours,less busy and less germy...
    and yes, i am one one of the few who actually wipe everything down before and after im done using the machine-im a germaphobe though,lol!
