Family

2011August 022

Gooooood Morning!

It is another beautiful morning in Kansas City!

After writing yesterday’s post from our screened in porch while enjoying the beautiful weather, I leashed up the girls and took them for a long walk.  When we got home, I attempted to ride my bike, but I need to make some adjustments to it and I wasn’t in the mood to get into all that and Justin was still asleep, so I gave up on it and ate a bowl of cereal.

My sister, Autumn, wants to start having family dinners, so last night we had my Dad’s side over to our house.  2011August 007

We all live fairly close but far enough that we don’t get together as often as we should.  We always have so much fun when we get together.

My sister, Vann, and her fiance, Matt, arrived late because she had her first wedding dress fitting and my brother, Colt, couldn’t make it.  The rest of us chowed down on some mexican food!

Since my birthday was in June, my brother Chaz’s was in July and my brother Benny’s was yesterday, my Stepmom made a cake that totaled all of our ages:

Chaz and Becky brought their lab puppy, Hank.

Sara stayed tucked away in our bedroom, scared of everyone.  I was surprised that she wouldn’t come to my Dad since that is where I got her!  It was just too many people and too over whelming at first.

After dinner, we all went outside to enjoy the weather and I carried Sara outside.

The nephews needed some backyard time!

Dad gently eased his way closer to her in the yard and when she finally allowed him to get close enough that she could smell him and he could touch her, she was beside herself!  She was jumping all over him and licking him.  She was so excited!!  It was like she was saying, “I DIDN’T KNOW THAT WAS YOU! YAY!!!”

She warmed up to Hank as well and they chased each other around the yard.  I was too busy watching and didn’t take any pictures!  I was so happy for Sara to have someone to play with. Hank was a little more aggressive then Sara with the chasing and tackling and it was making Katy a little nervous from her spot on the deck.  At one point, she ran out and smelled Sara’s face and checked to make sure she was okay and then kind of grumped at Hank, then slowly walked back to the deck, like…I want to make sure you are all right, but I DO NOT want to be chased!

I thought it was pretty cute that as much as Katy doesn’t really care for Sara, she didn’t want that puppy beating up on her!

I made a peanut butter pie for the family and made everyone take at least a bite.  Everyone was so full, I settled with just a bite instead of forcing a whole piece on everyone.

I tried to tell everyone the story about Jennie and her husband but I was getting so emotional about it, it didn’t come out quite as I planned.  I think everyone got the point.  It was about being together as a family and appreciating the time we have together.  You just never know if you get tomorrow.

That pie is good!  If you haven’t made one, do it!  Eat it with someone or a group of someone’s that you love.

  1. Looks like you had a great time with your family! I was actually getting a little homesick this weekend (maybe from all my free time on Friday)--my sister is moving into her first college apartment today. I so wish I was there! You're lucky your family is close enough for weekly gatherings!

    And your pie looks amazing!
