Sizzlin’

It was sizzlin’ hot here yesterday. I managed to get a run in before it got so hot it was hard to breath, but barely!  I ended up running three miles and then taking the girls for a one mile walk.

It was time for a cool and creamy yogurt bowl when we got back. Chobani vanilla greek yogurt, one peach (from Farmer’s Market), granola (also from the Farmer’s Market).

After breakfast, I ran to the store and bought a blow up pool.  This is one of my favorite things to do on hot summer days.

2011July 019

Me + pool + raft = bliss (and a nap!)

2011July 020

No crowded pool. No screaming kids. Just peaceful floating.  I pumped that baby up with a hand pump too!

Can you see how happy I am?  Every blister on my hand was worth it.

Unfortunately, the sun screen that I used didn’t work.  Apparently it’s not water proof or it’s old or something.  Whatever the reason, I am sunburned!  Only my front side though, so today, I’ll just lay on my belly and get my back (with better sunscreen, of course)!

After hours in the sun, I finally came in for food.  A cold, crisp salad sounded good, but I needed more than that, so I got a little creative.  First up the salad:

  • lettuce (from my Dad’s garden)
  • broccoli (from Farmer’s Market)
  • tomato (from Farmer’s Market)
  • red bell pepper
  • red onion (from Dad’s garden)
  • deli turkey
  • ranch dressing

Next, mini pizzas on gluten free english muffins:

2011July 007

  • gluten free english muffin drizzled with olive oil
  • one slice of tomato drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with italian seasoning
  • sliced mushroom
  • canadian bacon
  • string cheese
  • baked in 500 degree oven for 15 minutes or so.  I just kept checking on it because I wasn’t sure how long it would take.  Then I turned the oven to “broil” until the cheese was brown and bubbly.

They were FAB-U-LOUS!

Figuring I’d had enough heat and sun for the day, I stayed in for the rest of the afternoon/evening.  It’s so easy to get dehydrated in heat like we had yesterday, so I was drinking a lot of water last night.

My next meal was a chicken breast and brown rice with peas and carrots.

And some protein ice cream.

2011July 029

I wasn’t hungry for dinner, so I air popped some popcorn and had a popcorn buffet.  I sprinkled one bowl with nacho cheese popcorn seasoning, one with salt and butter and one with sour cream and onion popcorn seasoning.

We ended our evening with Big Brother and True Blood.

Sleeping update: We tried a new sleeping arrangement with the dogs.  Since Sara doesn’t like to be closed up in the office with the girls, but she continues to jump into our bed every couple of hours, we tried leaving the office door open and closing our door.  We had to get up a couple of times due to her barking, but she finally settled down around 2am and I didn’t hear another peep.  When I woke up at 5:30am all three of them came running out of the office to greet me!  That tells me they were all sleeping in their beds! Yes!  Our hope is that she will learn about bed time from Katy and Piper.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  We sure did!  Here’s hoping your week is even better!

On today’s agenda for me: Title Boxing, paper work for group home (boo), and pool time (applause)!

  6. Nisara, I got mine for Christmas, but I think they are usually under $20 and can be found at most stores that carry kitchen supplies (or online, of course).
